A Day at the Zoo

We headed out to the Milwaukee Zoo this morning. We got a little later start than I wanted to, but in the end we had just enough time to see what we wanted to see. We packed lunches and stopped at the credit union for discounted admission tickets (saved $14!), then we were on our way.

We've had this car for just about 5 years (2004 Chevy Malibu), but we've never used it for "tailgating" before. The kids had a blast eating their lunch on (and hiding under) the "table" in the back of the car.

It was a cool day, as mid-July goes. It was about 65, with a light breeze, and it was REALLY overcast. The rain held off for most of the day. It sprinkled off and on a bit as we were making our way out of the zoo, but there are a lot of trees and indoor exhibits, so we didn't get all that wet.

Reed was being a bit of a pill in the reptile house. He was afraid of all of the snakes, so he insisted on riding on Scott's shoulders. He did NOT want to get his picture taken.... :)

We got to see penguins, monkeys, elephants, giraffes, polar bears, bats, snakes, sea lions (and a lot more), and even walk around in an aviary. I was dive bombed by a stork. All in all it was a fun day.

We stopped at Cracker Barrel for dinner on the way home (yum!). Now I have my salt and fat intake taken care of for the rest of the weekend. Both boys fell asleep in the car, and refused to admit that they were tired once we got home. I was ready to go to bed by the time we left Cracker Barrel!
